Mutual Aid Assistance To Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service - Update 2130hrs 30/01/2014

Somerset at 29/01/2014 20:15

At 2015hrs this evening, the Fire & Rescue Service National Co-ordination Centre based in London contacted Cornwall Fire Control to mobilise the Newquay-based High Volume Pump to Somerset, as part of a major response to the flooding affecting the area. Newquay's High Volume Pump is one of ten that have been sent from around the country. They are currently at a strategic holding area near Taunton, awaiting deployment.

Note:
High Volume Pumps were purchased as part of a national project to better equip Fire & Rescue Services to deal with large-scale incidents including natural disasters and floods. The pumps can be mobilised to incidents locally or, for a major response, via the London-based Fire & Rescue Service National Co-ordination Centre.

Update 2130hrs 30/01/2014: Cornwall's High Volume Pump has been deployed at Saltmoor, near Bridgwater along with High Volume Pumps from Dorset and South Wales. The crew has returned to Cornwall but the High Volume Pump is exptected to remain in Somerset for weeks.
