Since 0900 hrs on Friday the 14th February Cornwall Fire Control has received 124 emergency calls. A large number of these calls have been attended by the service. With the fall of the tide and the wind continuing to batter the county the fire service is now being called to more power cables down. Currently six crew from Mullion are in attendance at a pile of tyres alight which is believed to have been caused by a fallen electric cable. Crews are on site waiting for the arrival of Western Power engineers to make the cables safe so the fire can be extinguished. The fire service has also attended cables down or sparking at Helston, St Columb Major, Madron, Lostwithiel and Fowey this evening.
