At 19:24 hrs Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service were called to a fire on the landing on 9th floor of Park House flats, St Austell. Five appliances, two Aerial platform ladders and support appliances were mobilised to the scene. Fire crews using 6 breathing apparatus and two main jets were used to extinguish the fire. Evacuation of the premises took place and the Fire service remain on scene damping down and assisting residents whilst specially trained officers carry out investigation into the cause of the fire.

Update: 22:45. The fire in on the 9th floor of the tower block has been confirmed out and all persons have been accounted for. Seven casualties were treated by paramedics on scene for minor injuries. Fire damage was confined to the 9th floor of the building and fire crews searched the flats in the building complex and then confirmed that all ‘persons were accounted for’. In total the 24 occupants of the flats on the top four floors of the complex are being temporarily rehomed with the help of the local authority and Emergency management team. Once the building had been searched and made safe occupants of the lower seven floors were allowed back to the building on a phased return.

Update: 00:05 Currently two appliances from St Austell with twelve crew and a welfare vehicle from St Dennis remain in attendance. Firefighters are assisting housing officers, Emergency management and Police with returning residents back into the building.
