Smouldering Rubbish Fire Under Building

Station Road, Truro at 10/03/2004 13:37

One appliance from Truro attended and the crew wearing breathing apparatus used one hosereel to extinguish the fire. The crew then used a thermal imaging camera to check if the fire had spread.

The fire was started by a cigarette igniting rubbish under a building. Fortunately on this occasion, there was only minor damage caused to the building but had the fire taken hold, it may have been a serious fire.

General Advice:
Many fires are started by careless disposal of cigarettes, some of which result in injury and even death.
Extreme care should be taken with smoking materials at all times, whether you are at home, at work, in the countryside or in public places.
