At 06:28 this morning Cornwall Fire Control received a call to a barn on fire which had hay, straw and cattle in it. Two appliances from St Mawes and one appliance were mobilised to the incident. On crews arrival the barn was well alight and all the cattle inside had been removed along with a tractor. The shed measured 20 x 15 metres. At 07:05 a request for four major appliances to attend, two appliances from Truro and St Austell were mobilised to the incident. The fire jumped a 6 foot gap between barns to a second barn containing animals – the farmer and fire crews released these animals. At this time there were three jets, one hydrant, and six breathing apparatus were in use. Accompanying the incident a Water carrier from Wadebridge, Command Support from St Just, Operational support unit from St Austell and Environmental support vehicle from Penzance attended. A total of 52 Fire service staff attended this incident. Western Power engineers isolated the electrics to the fire. After working at the incident the fire crews managed to contain the fire to the original barn – saving surrounding buildings from damage. At 08:04 the incident had been sectored, crews were using two jets, one hose reel jets along with two covering jet with six breathing apparatus being supplied by hydrants and the water carrier. A fire investigation was requested for this incident and is currently underway. The fire services attendance has been scaled down and two appliances remain on scene damping down and turning over.
