Electrical Fire

Garden Centre, Saveock, near Chacewater at 29/12/2014 10:37

Two fire appliances from Truro and one fire appliance from Redruth attended reports of an electrical fire. On arrival, the first crew reported that smoke was issuing from the roof and got to work extinguishing the fire in an electrical installation wearing breathing apparatus and using carbon dioxide and dry powder fire extinguishers. Hoses were also laid out in case the fire spread to other parts of the two-storey building, measuring eight metres by twenty metres.

The fire was extinguished by 1100hrs and the power supply was isolated. Electrical engineers, both contracted by the site and from Western Power Distribution attended to ensure that the scene was safe. Firefighters used three positive pressure ventilation fans to clear the smoke from the building and cut away to check for fire spread. They also assisted staff in moving reptiles to a safer area. The last fire crew left the scene at 1315hrs.
