Fire In Clothes Airer

St Wenn, Bodmin at 31/12/2014 11:49

Seven firefighters on two appliances from Wadebridge and six from Bodmin attended a call to a fire in a property near St Wenn. The alarm was raised when the properties occupant smelt smoke upstairs and investigated as there was no smoke detection in the premise. On crews arrival the fire had been contained to the kitchen and had been extinguished by the occupant of the building. On arrival an Ambulance was requested to attend to treat two casualties suffering from smoke inhalation. The fire involved combustibles which had been placed on airier and radiant head from a cooker flue had caught the items alight. Fire crews entered the premise wearing two breathing apparatus and used one thermal imaging camera and small gear to check for heat travel. Once the fire was confirmed out, crews fitted two smoke detectors in the property. Fortunately at the time of this fire the occupants were at home and discovered the fire, if smoke detectors had been fitted in the building earlier detection could have reduced damage to the property.
