Two appliances from Mullion Fire Station, with 9 fire fighters on board, are currently tackling a gorse fire near Kynance Cove, at Kynance Downs, The Lizard.

After Fire Control mobilised pumping appliances following the initial call received at 00:07 hours, they then received further calls from concerned members of the public as the fire can be seen from quite a distance away.

UPDATE at 00:57 hours - crews are currently using beaters on the approximately 5 hectares of gorse fire.

UPDATE at 01:20 hours - good progress being made using beaters.

UPDATE at 01:53 hours - reported now to be more in the region of 10 hectares of gorse affected - crews still using beaters to deal with remaining hotspots.

UPDATE at 02:31 hours - crews have left the scene.

Arson is suspected and the police have been informed.
