Blocked Chimney Causes High Carbon Monoxide Levels

Penmenner estate, St Keverne at 17/04/2015 02:13

Six firefighters from St Keverne attended a call to a property whose carbon monoxide alarm was sounding and the caller reported their alarm showing a reading of 400 parts per million in an upstairs room. Fortunately the alarm had raised the attention of the resident and on firefighters arrival the property was ventilated and the occupant of the house indicated to the fire crews that the chimney may be blocked. Crews further ventilated the property and after removing the fire from the hearth used chimney rods and a stirrup pump to extinguish a fire in the chimney and remove the blockage.
