The fire service received a call to an upstairs bedroom in a private domestic residence full of smoke but with no obvious fire. Eleven firefighters from Tolvaddon fire station were mobilised on two appliances to the scene. There was a strong smell of burning in the property and crews used a triple extension and thermal imaging camera to investigate the initial property and the neighbouring house. On investigation it was established that a chimney flue from the neighbouring property was leaking smoke and carbon monoxide into the bedroom of the property and the neighbouring property with readings as high as 70 parts per million. Fire crews removed the fire from the wood burner to make the scene safe. Crews remained on scene until both premises had been ventilated and had a reading of zero carbon monoxide. Home fire safety checks were carried out in both properties by fire crews before leaving scene.
