Malicious Call To Chip Pan Fire With Person Inside

Malabar, Truro at 22/05/2015 18:51

Two fire appliances from Truro Community Fire Station and a fire appliance from St Austell that was returning from standby duties at Truro, were mobilised to a report of a chip pan fire with a person still inside the property. Ambulance and Police also attended.

On arrival at the address given, there was no sign of fire. Following a search of the area by emergency responders, the call was classified as being made maliciously.

All details have been passed to Devon & Cornwall Police and they are continuing their inquiries. If anyone has any information as to who made this callous call, please contact the police on 101 or anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Making hoax calls to the emergency services is a crime and while the emergency crews were responding to this incident, they were not available to answer genuine calls for help. This put the people of Truro at greater risk, especially as the roads were particularly congested due to the serious road traffic collision on the A30. The two Truro fire crews had just left the scene of that incident.
