Nursing Home Fire

At 10:01 this morning a call was received to a fire in a kitchen of a nursing home, eleven firefighters on two appliances from Wadebridge and Bodmin were mobilised to the incident. A number of repeat calls to the fire were received so a third appliance from Delabole carrying six crew was assigned to the incident. Smoke was issuing from the property on crews arrival, fortunately staff at the residential home had evacuated all of the 12 residents. The two storey building measured 20 x 10 metres; the fire was in a kitchen and had spread to the ground floor of the property. The incident ground was sectorised by firefighters and crews used four breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets, one main jet and a covering jet supplied by a hydrant. Police and Ambulance services were requested to attend to assist with the incident and the care of the residents on scene. Western Power was requested to attend to isolate the electric supply to the building. Cornwall Fire service have been in contact with the Emergency management team to arrange accommodation for the 12 displaced residents overnight due to the services to the premise being isolated. At 11:12 crews were making good progress and a positive pressure ventilation fan was in use for smoke clearance.
11:52 Cornwall Fire and Rescue service remain on site and later today a fire investigation will be carried out to establish the cause of the fire.
17:56 Fire Investigation now complete cause was accidental.
All CFRS personnel have left the scene and there are no further details.
