Tumble Drier Fire - Further Update

Lanivet at 26/07/2015 13:49

Alarming news

Firefighters in Bodmin are again reminding people of the importance of having working smoke detectors fitted. During the early hours of Sunday morning crews were alerted to a property in Lanivet where there was a report of a fire.
On arrival the crew found that the occupant had been woken by their smoke detector and that there was a fire in their tumble dryer.
The occupant threw a bowl of water over the tumble dryer before evacuating the building and waiting for the fire service.

Watch Manager Dan Fitzpatrick from Bodmin fire station said “This is a great opportunity to remind people of the importance of having working smoke detectors fitted, this could have been a devastating incident if the occupants were not woken up in the early stages of a fire by their alarms. The tumble dryer was not actually drying at the time but was left on standby mode which also goes to show the importance of turning all appliances off when they are not in use.”

When crews arrived the fire was out and both the occupiers and their dogs had evacuated, the crews from Bodmin and Lostwithiel used a fan to ventilate the property due it being smoke logged.
