Child Rescued From River

Dunmere Area, Bodmin at 23/08/2015 17:40

Firefighters from Bodmin, water rescue vehicles from Bude and St Austell, and two wholetime officers were mobilised to reports of a child in trouble in the river. On arrival crews found one 11 year old stranded in chest height, fast flowing water in the middle of the river, near to a weir. Due to the current he was unable to reach the bank.

Crews rescued the child using line equipment and buoyancy aids to swim out to the child and bring him back safely the side of the riverbank.

Police and Ambulance were also in attendance. We would like to remind members of the public that children should not be left unsupervised around water.

Did you know over half of drowning deaths are among those aged under 25 years? Please follow our link below on how to stay safe in the water.
