At 19:13 this evening a call was received to smoke coming from a derelict building on Carclaze road, two appliances with nine crew from St Austell were mobilised to the scene. On the approach to the incident crews reported that they could see smoke issuing from the rear of the building and requested a third appliance attend. The third appliance was mobilised from Mevagissey with six crew. Firefighters were on scene by 19:19 and at 19:26 they made the request for a fourth appliance to attend along with an Aerial Ladder platform; six firefighters on an appliance from Fowey were alerted along with three crew from Truro for the Aerial Ladder Platform (ALP). The fire was in a property measuring 25 x 15 metres of two storeys. The fire was located on the ground floor of the building and crews used four breathing apparatus and two hose reels. Along with the fire appliances a breathing apparatus servicing unit from St Austell and an Incident Command Unit from Launceston were sent to the incident. The incident was sectorised and firefighters in breathing apparatus searched the building for multiple fire seats and Police officers attended as the cause of the fire is believed to be arson. Once the building had been searched crews confirmed there was only one seat of fire and once extinguished, a positive pressure ventilation fan was used to clear smoke from the building. Cornwall Highways re secured the property.
