Kitchen Fire

Leskinnick Terrace, Penzance at 01/09/2015 14:32

Ten firefighters in two pumping appliances from Penzance Community Fire Station attended a call to a suspected house fire, this afternoon, as an occupant in a house in Leskinnick Terrace, Penzance, could hear a smoke alarm sounding from his neighbour’s property, and upon checking could smell and see smoke from one of the windows of that property.

It was believed, but initially not confirmed, that no-one was at home, and crews gained access to the building using a triple extension ladder through a first floor window, then finding that the kitchen, downstairs, was smoke logged.

Firstly some of the crew checked the property thoroughly quickly confirming that the property was indeed unoccupied at this time, while other crew members proceeded to extinguish the fire that was contained, within a pan on the hob, in the kitchen – further removing this pan from the heat source and then ventilating the property.

The fire was accidental and confined.

This is all the information we have on this incident.

NB This incident, again, demonstrates the importance for all homes and businesses to have appropriate and reliable smoke detectors installed.
