Greenbank, Polruan at 03/09/2015 01:50
At 01:50 this morning a 999 call was received from a property where a carbon monoxide alarm had started sounding. The occupant had evacuated the property and gone to a neighbour’s home to call 999 for assistance. Six firefighters on one appliance from Polruan was mobilised to the scene. On arrival a positive reading for carbon monoxide was made in the property and the source of the gas confirmed as coming from an open fire with a defective chimney flue. Fire crews extinguished the fire and then removed it to outside of the premise. Once removed a positive pressure ventilation fan was used along with natural ventilation to clear any remaining carbon monoxide from the premise. The occupant of the property was allowed to return home when crews confirmed the carbon monoxide was cleared. Advice was given to get the chimney checked out.
