Monday 21st June – Friday 25th June at St Austell Fire Station
The Restormel Community Safety Partnership, which includes Cornwall County Fire Brigade, Devon and Cornwall Constabulary, Cornwall County Council and Westcountry Ambulance Service, will be launching its second ever South Restormel Schools Lifeskills event during child safety week Monday 21st June 2003 – Friday 25th June 2003 at St Austell Fire Station.
The aim of the week is to set out a number of potentially dangerous scenarios for children aged between 9 and 10. Safety is the key message and it is hoped the children will acquire knowledge and the necessary lifeskills to deal with a variety of incidents in the future.
The children will be split into eight groups, six in each. These groups will then rotate every ten minutes between interactive presentations from the eight organisations. These include a display trailer from the RNLI, assorted building site machinery and difficulties encountered at road traffic collisions.
Seven hundred and fifty children are expected to attend from twenty primary schools within the Restormel area. These schools include Mount Charles, Nanpean, Whitemoor and Gorran.
Station Officer Steve Halstead explained: “Last year the event proved a huge success with over 750 children attending the event over the week. We are pleased that so many of the local schools are taking up this opportunity again and encouraging young people to think about safety in their day to day lives. Everyone is committed to educating young people and we are hopefully helping to reduce the risks these children may face in the future”
