Landslide

Beachside Court, Porthtowan at 22/06/2004 17:40

Three fire engines from Redruth and Camborne attended a landslide last night at 17.40. The landslide was approx 25 ft wide and 40 ft deep and was slipping into someone's garden. Firefighters ensured that everyone was safe and the owners were evacuated as a precautionary measure. Firefighters then dug holes and trenches at the top of the landslide so that flood waters could be diverted. They also dug holes out below the landslide so that falling sand would fall into these rather than into the garden. A structural engineer was called to the scene and he advised that what the firefighters were doing was the most that could be done to make it safe. The fire brigade were there until 21.15.
