The heavy rain and high winds have caused flooding issues in a number of locations across Cornwall.
Five peoples vehicles have been trapped in flood waters and Cornwall Fire and Rescue have attended to provide assistance and have issued an urgent safety message asking people not to drive through flood water. Please do not become the sixth vehicle they have to assist!
CORMAC, Cornwall Fire & Rescue and EA crews are attending a number of flooded areas and Highways England SW has two support units working in Cornwall, with a third one available if needed. Flood signs are in place at the relevant locations.
The Environment Agency has a number of flood warnings in place for:
River Walkham in East Cornwall
River Stratt near Bude
Rivers Hayle and Bolingey in West Cornwall
There is a flood warning in place at Portreath, where the EA operational teams are continuing to clear the trash screen and will monitor the situation here carefully.
The river at Edgcumbe Road, Newquay alongside the boating lake has broken its banks and closed the road.
The road between Trekenning at St Columb and Newquay Airport is flooded and is currently impassable. Fire crews are on site helping to pump the water to reopen the road as soon as possible. Airport passengers are advised to allow extra time to divert to the airport.
The following significant roads are severely affected by floods:
A374 at Polbathic is part open between Trerulefoot and Torpoint
B3300 at Portreath Bridge is closed
A3058 at Trekenning is closed
B3254 at Liskeard was closed but is now open
Winnards Perch to Padstow is flooded
The A30 at Penzance, St Buryan to Drift, has rocks and debris on the road.
A374 at Sheviock has water running off farmland and the river is diverting across the road for approx. 50m. The road is passable with EXTREME care.
The A390 at St Blazey is also closed by roadworks please take this into account when diverting around flood waters.
Some properties have also been affected by flooding:
We are aware of 10 properties in West Cornwall that have been affected by surface water
2 properties have been flooded in Angarrack
3 properties have been flooded in Blackwater
More rain and high winds are expected into the evening and with the land saturated, the travelling public are asked to avoid all flooded areas and if they have to travel please take extreme care.
