Flooding

West Cornwall at 01/01/2003 03:13

Cornwall County Fire Brigade attended various flooding incidents over a 48 hour period from the early hours of New Years Day. These incidents were predominately in the following areas:
Angarrack
Helston
Camborne area
with other incidents in Hayle, Falmouth, Constantine and Marazion.
Major incidents of note include the rescue of a person in Landrake from their car, several houses flooded in Angarrack with brigade assistance for five and a half hours and an overturned car underwater in Marazion.
The latter required assistance from the police, the ambulance service, the coastguard and a helicopter from RNAS Culdrose as it was unknown whether people were either still trapped in the car or had been washed away in the floodwater. Thermal imaging cameras were used both on the ground and in ther air but it was later discoverd that the driver and passenger had escaped before the emergency services had arrived.
All stations throughout the West Cornwall area were mobilised to flooding incidents and firefighters worked hard to assist the members of the public as much as they could.
