At 14:19 a call was received to a springer spaniel which had fallen down a mine shaft, on the call it was determined that the shaft was dry, although the dog was not making any noise. A total of 23 fire service staff were mobilsed to the scene from St Just, Penzance and specialist Line Rescue trained crew from Tolvaddon. On crews arrival a suitable anchor point was identified, rope rescue equipment including ground anchors, picket bars and tools for clearing scrub were used. An analytical risk assessment was carried out before one firefighter was lowered down the shaft. The springer spaniel was 13 metres down in the shaft, he was recovered uninjured and returned to his owner on retrieval.
