At 23:41 this evening a 999 call was received from a family who’s carbon monoxide alarm was sounding. The caller stated that a carbon monoxide alarm was reading 200 on the alarm and one occupant had unusual black marks on their face. The family had evacuated to a neighbouring property on hearing the alarm and ventilated the property. Six firefighters on one appliance from Helston and an Officer was mobilised to the scene. On crews arrival the property was evacuated with the carbon monoxide alarms sounding. Crews entered the premise wearing two breathing apparatus and gas monitor. Crews identified the source of the carbon monoxide to a coal fired range, measuring levels as high as 200 parts per million of carbon monoxide in the property. Six members of the household were taken to hospital via Ambulance. Firefighters extinguished the coal fire and removed it to the outside, they then remained on scene ventilating the premise until it was clear of carbon monoxide.
