Deer and Fawn Rescue From Disused Tank

Bugle, St Austell at 04/06/2016 16:58

Fifteen firefighters from St Austell and Bodmin used specialist line rescue equipment to rescue a deer and her fawn from a disused settling tank. The deer had become trapped in the bottom of a disused settling tank which measured 100 ft in diameter and was 10 ft deep. A triple extension ladder was used to access the bottom of the pit. It was initially planned that the deer were to be sedated before their rescue but they were in a weakened state and were easily caught by fire crew. Firefighters wore water safety equipment in the tank as there was an amount of water in the bottom of the tank. Once the deer were caught they were raised from the bottom of the tank in an animal net and left in the care of the RSPCA officer on scene.
