Cornwall County Fire Brigade is calling on residents of Camborne to think before they park their cars in case their parking is stopping fire engines, ambulances and police cars getting through to the scene of an emergency.

The Fire Brigade is joining with Devon and Cornwall Police in a project designed to make local residents aware of the problems caused by indiscriminate parking.

The Camborne Safe Park Scheme calls upon local people to “THINK BEFORE YOU PARK” and warns that inconsiderate parking can delay emergency vehicles and, in some cases, the vital minutes lost could cost someone their life.

“People who park inconsiderately in places with narrow roads means fire engines can find it impossible to reach the scene of a fire - with disastrous - even fatal - consequences” said Station Officer Dave Carlise

“We have worked with the police service to produce a flyer which carries the message “THINK BEFORE YOU PARK” which is being distributed by the emergency services when they come across a problem”.

“We need to raise public awareness of the problems caused by inconsiderate parking outside houses - can the refuse vehicle get through ?- if not a fire engine can’t get though either.
