If You're Having a Bonfire Or Controlled Burning Please Call Us

Cornwall County Fire Brigade are asking members of the public, who are planning to have a bonfire or controlled burn, to call Fire Control operators on 01872 320205 and let them know.

Over the last two months firefighters from Camborne and Redruth have attended over twenty such incidents. Each time a member of the public has rightfully called 999 when they have seen smoke in the distance. However, when the firefighters arrived at the ‘fire’ it has been a bonfire or controlled burn on the owner’s property.

Davinia Grist, Public Relations Officer explains: “The Fire Service has to attend every emergency call it receives. When responding to an incident like this that fire engine is not available to attend a ‘real’ fire where a relative or friend could be in danger”.

“If you are planning to have a bonfire or controlled burn please call one of our fire control operators and let them know. They can then log your address so if a call comes in for a fire in the garden of that property we know it is not an emergency, unless of course the caller tells us the fire is out of control”.
