This afternoon Falmouth Coastguard received an assistance call from a 35 foot yacht off the Roseland peninsular. The skipper of the Yacht said that there was a fire in the boat and there was gas and fuel on board. Falmouth Lifeboat and the Coastguard Rescue Helicopter 924 were sent to assist the vessel, the Skipper was rescued from the burning yacht by the Lifeboat, and the yacht was then towed to Falmouth. At 15:40 Cornwall Fire and Rescue service were informed of the incident details and awaited a further call to confirm when the boat had been brought alongside. At 19:06 the boat was confirmed alongside the County Wharf in Falmouth, Lifeboat crews secured the vessel to the jetty whilst Fire crew prepared an adequate water supply for entry to the Yacht, Coastguard were also in attendance. Under a covering jet, two crew wearing breathing apparatus, a thermal imaging camera and hose reel made access to the forward cabin on the Yacht. At 19:43 it was confirmed that the fire on board had been extinguished. Fire resources have now been withdrawn from the vessel and advice given to the Skipper of the Yacht. The cause of the fire has been confirmed as accidental, Fire crew remain on scene making up equipment.
