Fire In Wheelie Bin

Well Lane, Liskeard at 27/10/2016 20:38

One appliance from Liskeard Community Fire Station attended a fire in a wheelie bin. On arrival crews found the wheelie bin to be well alight and it had burnt through a fuse box on the outside of a property. Police and Western Power were also requested. Arson was suspected.

There are steps you can take to protect your property and bins from arsonists.

Nuisance wheelie bin fires are a problem in some neighbourhoods, typically causing damage of up to £1,650 including damage to buildings, cleaning up and the cost of replacement.

To keep your wheelie bin safe:

- don't put out your bin until it is due for collection
- don't overfill the bin or leave loose waste around it
- don't store in close proximity to a building
- don't allow bins or waste to block escape routes
- don't store waste by windows or doors

If you have any information about a suspicious fire, call Crimestoppers Arson Alert on 0800 555 111 or Devon and Cornwall Police on 101.
