Firefighters from Tolvaddon and Falmouth, alongside a wholetime officer are in attendance at a large barn fire in United Downs. The barn is believed to contain wood. Crews have two ground monitors and three branches in use to extinguish the fire. Western Power have isolated power to the building, and Devon and Cornwall Police are also on scene. This is all the information we have at this time.

The unit involved in this fire measured 30 x 30 metres and confirmed two buildings containing wood for domestic use was involved. The building was well alight on crew’s arrival. At 0800 this morning mechanical extracting equipment arrived on scene to assist with breaking up the heart of the fire. The incident ground has been split into two sectors. Services to the site have been isolated. Good progress is being made, and two monitors and one jet in use at 0900. The fire is still burning at this time and crews have confirmed that fire resources likely to be on scene for some time. The cause of the fire is currently unknown and fire investigation is being arranged to be carried out when the fire has been extinguished. Update posted at 10:00.

Update 13:00 The fire has been confirmed as extinguished, heavy plant and two main jets remain turning over and damping down. A fire investigation has been completed. Cornwall Fire and Rescue crews have started making up equipment.
