St Keverne to Newtown road at 20/01/2017 17:37
Six firefighters on one appliance from St Keverne attended a call to an amount of straw on fire alongside a road. Crews used one hose reel jet to extinguish 10 metres of straw burning along the road verge.
Between the 01 April 2009 and 31 March 2013 Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service attended 1318 outdoor fires- gorse/vegetation, professionally known as ‘Wild Fires’.
Of these Wild Fires, 57% were deliberately set (arson) leaving 43% as being started either accidently or with best intention, often as a means of controlling vegetation.
If you are going to do a controlled burn on your land, we suggest you inform the Fire and Rescue Service before you start by calling our Critical Control Centre on 0203 162 2240.
Tell the Critical Control Operator:
• Your location.
• Time you intend to start burning.
• Confirm when you have finished burning.
This helps us avoid sending fire engines to false alarms when they could be responding to a real emergency.
