Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue have requested two appliances from Bude to assist them with a major fire involving a thatched roof property.

Eight appliances were initially mobilised from Bideford, Appledore, Torrington, Hartland, Barnstaple and Holworthy together with a water bowser from Barnstaple, the Incident Command Unit from Ilfracombe also attended. A High Volume pump from Wellington also attended.

On arrival at the scene the roof was well alight and further resources were requested to attend.

Crew are using breathing apparatus, high pressure hosereel jets and compressed air foam at the incident.

Further resources attending are an aerial ladder platform from Barnstaple and appliances from South Molton, Braunton and Hatherleigh. A telehandler was also mobilised from Special Operations in Exeter.

Update 1045 hours: There are four ladders , two compressed air foams, one hose reel jet, and breathing apparatus in use.

Update 1400hrs: Bude firefighters wearing breathing apparatus continue to work alongside colleagues from Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service, battling the fire, with good progress being made.

Update 1630 hours: Both appliances from Bude are now returning to their home station, the incident is ongoing.
