Property Fire

A working smoke detector alerted a neighbour to call the Fire Service to a fire at a property in Whiterock Road, Wadebridge. Crews from Wadebridge, Padstow and Bodmin attended the incident along with a supervisory officer.
On arrival they discovered a fire in a single storey property and it was believed there was one person trapped inside. Brave attempts had been made by the neighbour to rescue the occupant of the property. Crews used breathing apparatus, a hose reel jet, a covering jet and a thermal imaging camera to extinguish the fire. Police and ambulance were also on scene. One person was removed from the building and was left in the care of the ambulance service who then transferred the casualty to a serious burns unit. A second ambulance was requested as the neighbour who had attempted to rescue the occupant was suffering from smoke inhalation and shock.

Police were informed that a property on Whiterock Road, Wadebridge was full of smoke at around 10:30pm last night.

One person; an elderly woman, was taken to Treliske hospital in a critical condition. She later died at hospital and her next of kin have been informed.

One man who was also in the property was treated for the effects of smoke inhalation.

One neighbour also went to Treliske as a precaution. Both have since left the hospital.

Police and fire investigators will remain at the property today to undertake further examinations in to the cause of the fire.
