Tractor Driver Trapped By Live Electricity Cables

Six firefighters on one appliance from Truro attended a call to a tractor and towed appliance which had come into contact with the driver trapped in the cab. The driver was trapped unable to escape the cab through fear of electrocution and reported that the live electric cable had also set fire to a rear tyre of the trailer. Western Power engineers were requested to attend the incident, the control centre confirmed that they were isolating the section of the electric network involved. On the arrival of the Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that the tractor and trailer unit were in contact with an electricity pole and there was a tyre on fire on the appliance being towed. The driver was still within the Tractor. At 11:38 Western Power engineers were in attendance and assessing the incident scene. Firefighters were granted a 'permit to work' confirming the electricity had been isolated to the incident, two breathing apparatus stage 1, one thermal imaging camera and a carbon dioxide fire extinguisher was used to extinguish the fire.
