At 05:47 this morning a 999 call was received to a tumble dryer on fire in a property in Newlyn. The smoke alarm was sounding on the call and the caller was concerned for their partner in the flat - the incident was made 'Persons reported'. Eleven firefighters on two appliances from Penzance and St Just attended the incident. When arriving on scene crews confirmed that the occupants of the property had evacuated. Crews used one hose reel, one covering jet and one safety jet along with two breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire, the fire had started in a tumble dryer. Once the fire was extinguished crews removed the tumble dryer from the building and naturally ventilated the property. Police and Ambulance crews also attended this incident. There are no more details available on this incident.

Never leave your appliance unattended or running overnight. Tumble dryers and washing machines contain powerful motors with fast moving parts that get very hot. If you do not clean and maintain your machine, excess fluff or lint can build up over time and catch fire.
