Gorse Fire

At 1509 hours Fire Control received a call reporting a fire on the seaward side of the Beacon, appliances from Perranporth were mobilised, once on scene further resources were requested and additional appliances from Tolvaddon, Truro and Penzance were mobilised. The fire involves approximately five hectares of heather and gorse well alight, crews are using high pressure hosereels and beaters and a water shuttle is in use.

Update 1745 hours: Further resources have been requested, appliances from Tolvaddon and Newquay have been mobilised also the Welfare Vehicle from St. Dennis and a Water Carrier from Helston. Fire Control are still receiving calls at this time, over fifty calls have been received regarding this incident.

Update 1800 hours: Approximately six hectares are now involved in the fire, steady progress is being made, a water shuttle is in use and crews are using high pressure hosereels and beaters. Also attending is a specialist 4 x 4 vehicle from Looe which will be used for welfare purposes.

Overnight the incident has scaled down to two crews from Newquay and Tolvaddon. They are currently using hosereels and beaters to damp down and extinguish hot spots.

Update 0700 hours: Appliances from Perranporth and Truro are in attendance, crews are monitoring the area for hot spots and damping down.

Update 1000 hours: Appliances from Perranporth, Truro and Tolvaddon are in attendance along with a Wholetime Officer, the crews are damping down using three high pressure hosereel jets and a main jet and monitoring the situation.

Update 1300 hours: Tolvaddon and Perranporth crews are still on scene at this time, they have been damping down and monitoring hot spots, they will soon be leaving the incident. Some residual smoke may be seen in the area, but will be monitored by National Trust Wardens.
