Mattress On Fire In Open

Truro Road, St Austell at 26/06/2017 19:30

The Fire and Rescue Service were called to a fire in a derelict building on Truro Road in St Austell two appliances from St Austell and one appliance from St Dennis along with a Wholetime Officer were mobilised. On arrival they found a mattress in the open had been deliberately set alight but did not involve the building. Crews extinguished the fire using a hose reel. The police also attended the scene as arson was confirmed.

Anyone with information on fires being deliberately started in the countryside are advised to anonymously call Crimestoppers free on 0800 555 111 or contact Devon and Cornwall Police on 101 with information.

Arson puts both the public and firefighters at unnecessary risk. It ties up resources that could be in demand for other more serious incidents.

A lot of Cornwall is covered by on-call firefighters, so there's also a significant cost to each incident.
