At 11:59 this morning two 999 calls were received stating that there was a fire to the rear of the St Agnes Hotel. The Hotel was evacuating and the Fire service was required to attend. Ten Firefighters on two appliances from Perranporth and Tolvaddon were mobilised to the scene. On crews arrival they confirmed that there was smoke issuing from the building and an assistance message of ‘Make Pumps Four’ was made. Two further appliances from Tolvaddon and Truro were mobilised to the incident. Crews confirmed that there was a fire in a ground floor kitchen, the fire was through the roof of the kitchen and crews were using four breathing apparatus, two hose reels, one thermal imaging camera and one safety jet in use. Along with the additional fire appliances Two Flexi Duty Officers were on scene and supporting appliances – Incident Command Unit from St Just and a Breathing Apparatus support unit from Falmouth were mobilised to the scene. Devon and Cornwall Police were asked to attend the incident to assist with traffic control around St Agnes. The three storey Hotel was link detached to domestic properties; the fire was located in a ground floor kitchen and store. At 12:33 crews were using four breathing apparatus, two thermal imaging cameras, two hose reel jets, and one safety jet supplied by a Hydrant, crews confirmed that they were making good progress on fighting the fire. At 12:47 further assistance of six pumps was requested for Breathing apparatus – appliances from Truro and Newquay was mobilised to the scene. A total of 50 Fire service staff was involved in this incident at its height. At 13:57 it was confirmed that the fire had been extinguished and that its cause was accidental. Cornwall Fire and Rescue staff will remain in attendance for some time this afternoon; a Fire Investigation will be carried out to confirm the exact cause of the fire.
