Baler and Bales On Fire

Washaway, Bodmin at 27/08/2017 19:23

Two appliances from Bodmin and one from Wadebridge attended a call to a baler on fire and some hay bales. On crews arrival the baler was well alight, two large tonne hay bales were also involved and 30 square metres of field stubble was also alight. Firefighters used eight beaters and two hose reels on the fire. Water from a stream was used on the incident in a pump relay.

Every year we attend numerous fires on farms, where buildings are completely destroyed by fire, often with the loss of large amounts of stock, straw, hay, farm machinery, chemicals and even livestock.
We have produced a booklet in partnership with Cornish Mutual and NFU Mutual to help farms comply with the new fire laws.
The booklet contains the information on the following:
• What you’re required to do by law
• Fire safety risk assessments
• If a fire breaks out
• Controlled burning
• Dangerous substances
• Arson
