Six firefighters on one appliance from Padstow attended a call to a wheelie bin on fire on a campsite near to Porthcothnan. The wheelie bin was totally destroyed on the arrival of the fire service, one hose reel was used to damp the scene of the fire. Crews confirmed that the believed cause of the fire was from a disposable barbecue being placed in the bin before it was fully extinguished and cold.

Although most barbecues present no problems, there have been examples of fires, serious injuries and deaths caused by the use of flammable liquids or sitting barbecues too close to fences, garden sheds, buildings or trees.
