Fire In Roof

At 15:14 this afternoon an 999 call was received to a fire in a roof in a property in Crowan. Three appliances from Tolvaddon and Penzance were mobilised to the scene. On arrival of the first appliance crews confirmed smoke was issuing from the roof. The fire involved a bungalow measuring 12 x 20 metres with the fire in the roof space and also solar panels. Firefighters used two breathing apparatus, one main jet, one safety jet supplied from a hydrant. At 15:49 crews requested further assistance from a fourth appliance for breathing apparatus at 15:49. An Ambulance was also requested for one casualty suffering smoke inhalation. Supporting appliances an Incdent Command Unit from St Just and Breathing apparatus support unit from Falmouth were mobilised to the scene. At 16:14 crews had one covering jet in use, four breathing apparatus stage 1, two hydrants, one thermal imaging camera and crews confirmed that the fire was well established in the roof space. At 16:22 a Water crier was requested and mobilised to the scene from Helston. Crews remain on scene tackling the fire, one casualty has been taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation. At 17:26 good progress was being made and four breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets and two covering jets are in use.

Update 2100 hours: The fire has been extinguished and all resources have returned to their home stations, one appliance from Tolvaddon is still in attendance and the crew are monitoring hot spots and damping down.

Update @ 2245hours: The appliance from Tolvaddon has now left the scene and returned to home station.
