Two fire appliances from Penzance, one fire appliance from St Just and one fire appliance from Hayle are in attendance with engineers from Western Power Distribution at a fire involving a transformer at an electricity sub-station. Firefighters are preventing the fire from spreading and awaiting the electrical engineers to isolate the power supply before the fire can be extinguished.
Due to the volume of smoke, roads in the area have been closed with assistance from Devon & Cornwall Police.
Update 12:19 - The Foam Response Pod from Newquay has been requested and is mobile to the incident along with a further Wholetime Officer.
Update 13:47 - Crews are currently defensive, awaiting confirmation from Western Power that the substation has been isolated, before crews can commence firefighting using Foam.
Update 15:30 - Currently we have 4 Major Pumps, BA Support Vehicle, Foam Unit, 4 Flexible Duty Officers and the Duty Area Manager in attendance. Crews are remaining defensive.
Update 18:20 - The incident is now being scaled down. It is likely that an appliance will remain in attendance until the morning.
Update - 07:00 - Overnight crews from Helston and Tolvaddon have been in attendance. A wholetime crew from Penzance are due to relieve the Tolvaddon crew shortly. A small fire remains in the substation, western power have been in attendance overnight.
Update - 09:18 - The Penzance crew have left the scene and will re re-visiting the site this afternoon.
