Over the last 48 hour period our co-responders at St Ives, Helston and St Keverne have mobilised at the request of South West Ambulance Service Trust to a variety of incidents and given assistance until the arrival of ambulance services.

On-call firefighters serving at these stations, "co-responding" to fire and medical calls. They assist the local community and SWAFST in ensuring prompt medical treatment is given to people living in isolated areas. They do this by utilising Cornwall Fire, Rescue and Community Safety (CFRCS) Service vehicles to respond to the incident scene and provide enhanced medical care until the arrival of an ambulance.

Regular enhanced training ensures maintenance of skills, which is confirmed by assessment from SWAFST Paramedics.

From 1 April 2015 until 1 December 2016, we have attended 1301 co-responder calls.
