The Critical Control Centre wish everyone a very merry Christmas and we hope you all enjoy your day. We are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week and 365 days of the year.

07:04 - A crew from Tolvaddon Fire Station were mobilised to a report of a smoke alarm activated in a house monitored by a careline. On arrival everyone was safe and the cause was found to be a faulty smoke alarm.

07:49 - A crew from Liskeard Fire Station were requested to attend a road traffic collision to assist Devon and Cornwall Police. The vehicle involved was on a hill and in danger of rolling down the hill. Our crew made the vehicle safe by moving it off the road.

08:07 - The Critical Control Centre received a request from Devon and Cornwall Police to assist with an ongoing incident in Pool. An appliance from Tolvaddon Fire Station mobilised however they were stood down minutes later as the incident had come to a safe conclusion without our attendance.

08:35 - Our Helston Co-Responders were mobilised to assist South West Ambulance Service with a call just outside Helston. After our responders attended the patient was left in the care of ambulance staff and our responders have returned to their families.

11:12 - The Helston Co-Responders were requested by South West Ambulance Service to assist at an address in Helston.

12:28 - The Critical Control Centre received a call from a member of the public concerned about the smell of fuel around a household fuel tank. A hazardous materials officer contacted our caller to obtain more information and subsequently give advice on best course of action.

12:54 - An appliance was mobilised to the Temple area of the A30 to a report of an electrical cable arcing. On arrival Western Power Distribution were also in attendance and isolated the affected cables to make the area safe.

14:04 - Fire appliances from Bodmin, St Austell and Launceston, along with an officer, were mobilised to a report of a vehicle in a ditch with a person inside on A30 eastbound. The exact location was not initially clear, so the A30 was checked from Roche. Bodmin appliances were first on scene, just east of Bolventor, closely followed by Launceston. The St Austell appliance was then sent to standby at Bodmin to provide fire cover. One casualty was assisted from the vehicle and left in care of the Ambulance service. The vehicle was made safe and the incident left in care of Police.

15:10 - An appliance, whilst on its way back from a standby at Bodmin Fire Station, reported a large tree had fallen blocking both carriageways on the A389 at Lanivet. The crew used small tools and a saw to clear one carriageway and allow some traffic flow. Devon and Cornwall Police were also in attendance. The Critical Control Centre informed Cornwall Highways who will attend to clear the tree. The crew left the incident in the hands of the police and continued to return to St Austell Fire Station.

16:10 - Fire crews from Lostwithiel, Bodmin and St Austell responded to a 999 call stating that a smoke alarm was actuating and there was a smell of smoke inside a property. The occupants were told to leave the property in Hillside Gardens, Lostwithiel. Firefighters arrived and investigated, to find some combustible materials were too close to a fire and were heating up enough to give off fumes that set off the alarm.

The smoke detectors in this property were sensitive enough to warn of a fire before it developed. The occupants were given vital extra time to get to safety, which if this had happened at night, would have probably saved their lives.

Please don't under-estimate the importance of having working smoke alarms that can warn you of a fire, to give extra time to escape. Follow the link below for further information on how easy it is to obtain and install smoke alarms.

17:31 - Appliances from Truro, St Austell and Bodmin responded to a road traffic collision on the A390 at Hewas Water. Initially it was reported that people were trapped inside a vehicle. On arrival crews reported all persons had got out of the vehicle and they were only required to make the vehicle safe.

20:44 - Cornwall Fire and Rescue service received a call reporting a Fire at a property in Higher Tresawsan, Callestick.
One pump from Tolvaddon and one from Perranporth Community Fire Station were immediately mobilised by Fire Control.
On arrival the officer in charge confirmed a fire in the porch area of the property.
Crews are currently using four breathing apparatus at stage one, one hose reel jet, one safety jet and a thermal imaging camera to tackle the fire.

22:10 - Two appliances from Falmouth, the Rescue Tender from Tolvaddon Community Fire Stations and an Officer attended a two vehicle road traffic collision. Cormac was requested to clear debris, oil and fuel from the road. All persons concerned were left in the care for the Ambulance service and crews made the vehicle safe.
