Property Fire

Upper Eastcliffe Road, Par at 06/01/2018 20:32

One fire appliances from Fowey and one fire appliance from St Austell Community Fire Stations were mobilised along with an on duty officer to a report of a fire in a property. The Critical Control operator taking the 999 call stayed on the line for over six minutes to confirm that the occupants of the building had made their way outside to safety.

The fire is in the first floor bedroom of a semi-detached property and the roof was well alight.

At 20:52 the officer in charge made this incident a 'make pumps five'. Fire Control immediately mobilised one pump from St Austell, one pump from Lostwithiel and one pump from Mevagissey Community Fire Stations along with another on duty officer and specialist appliances related to a make pumps incident.

Four breathing apparatus at stage one and three main jets are currently in use.

All persons are accounted for.

Firefighter (Control) Todd Hollyoake said "We understand any incident like this is traumatic and upsetting to all those affected. The caller stated that they were not out of the property, I instructed them to get out immediately. It was a further six minutes before the occupants made their way out of the building. This has been the second call in recent weeks where the occupants were still inside the property. It is absolutely vital for occupants to realise how quickly fires can develop and how rapidly you can become overcome by smoke. When a fire starts in your home, your priority must be to get out, stay out and call 999.”

Update - At 23:42 a stop message was received for this incident. Crews will shortly be scaling down the incident and begin to return to home stations.
