Cornwall Fire and Rescue service received a call from a member of the public reporting smoke coming from a washing machine at a property in Chapel Street, Probus.
One pump from Truro and one pump from St Austell Community Fire Stations were immediately mobilised by Fire Control along with a whole time Officer.
On arrival the officer in charge confirmed a that a plastic washing basket had been left on a warm hob causing the smoke.
Crews completed a home fire safety check and the incident was left safe and in the hands of the occupants.
