Two appliances from Tolvaddon Community Fire Station were mobilised along with a supervisory officer following 999 calls to a fire in a shop. Camborne CCTV is monitored in the Critical Control Centre at the fire service HQ at Tolvaddon and smoke was soon seen issuing from the shop, indicating a spreading fire. An additional fire appliance from Hayle Emergency Services Community Station was mobilised and Police informed that the road would be blocked by the fire appliances. On arrival there was smoke issuing from the building and firefighters, some wearing breathing apparatus, got to work using one hose reel, one safety jet and one main jet to extinguish the fire.
Update at 2315hrs: A further appliance was requested for breathing apparatus, which is on scene from Perranporth (they were standing by at Tolvaddon). A breathing apparatus support vehicle and crew from Falmouth are also in attendance. The building involved is 5 metres by 10 metres in a terrace and consisting of three floors. The tanning shop is on the ground floor with flats above.
The road is still currently closed between Tyacks and Trelowarren Street. Devon & Cornwall Police are assisting firefighters at the scene.
