Following a report of a garage fire, crews from St Austell and Fowey responded. After hurrying to the scene they found that there was no fire and that the call had been a hoax. Whilst the crews were answering this call they were not available had a real emergency occurred in that area. This potentially put lives at risk.

Hoax calls to the fire brigade are regarded as a serious crime and as such, carry a heavy sentence for those found guilty in a court of law of committing this offence. These range from a large fine, recovery of costs by the fire brigade (which in this case may add up to over £1000) and in some cases custodial sentences have been passed.
