At 10:21 this morning the Critical Control Centre received an emergency call regarding a residential fire.

Two appliances from Launceston were immediately mobilised, along with a whole time officer. On arrival crews found smoke issuing from the building and requested the attendance of further appliances.

Appliances were mobilised from Callington, Liskeard and Holsworthy. A kitchen fire was discovered inside the property and firefighters used four breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets, one safety jet and a thermal imaging camera to extinguish the fire.

Devon and Cornwall Police and South West Ambulance service were also in attendance.

Cooking related fires can be very dangerous and over the past three years there have been two deaths and six serious injuries due to this type of incident. Nearly all of these fires occurred in the kitchen and the majority are related to the oven (60%) and then the grill/ toaster (15%).
