Church On Fire

On mobilisation to this incident the crew from Polruan saw the church surrounded by smoke and requested two more appliances to be mobilised, on arrival the crews found the church heavily smokelogged, the fire was situated on the ground floor, firefighters wearing breathing apparatus using jets and the Thermal Image Camera were committed at the scene. Further appliances were requested, the appliances at the scene were from Polruan, Looe, Lostwithiel, Liskeard & Saltash, the Command Support Vehicle from Truro and the Breathing Apparatus Support Unit from St. Austell also attended. Devon Fire & Rescue were contacted and and Aerial Ladder Platform was requested but was not utilised at the incident. The fire spread to the roof and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used jets on the fire. Approximately 60% of the roof has been saved but there is extensive water damage within the structure. The incident was scaled down from approximately 2230 hours, with Brigade personnel providing cover throughout the night. Arson is suspected.
