Prepared For Any Emergency

Bodmin Fire Station at 04/08/2005 11:00

At this year’s Royal Cornwall Show children and adults were invited to take part in a little game at the Emergency Planning Stand. Once they had successfully completed it their names were put forward into a draw.

The aim of the competition was to raise the public’s awareness of how to be prepared in an emergency.

Steve Winston, County Emergency Planning Officer highlighted one particularly good way of being prepared for an emergency:

“Every householder should have an ‘emergency box’. This should include a torch, a non-mains powered radio, spare batteries, a first aid kit, bottled water and long-life snacks”

He added: “You can also add to your box warm clothing, essential medication and personal items such as glasses or a wallet/purse, a mobile phone and charger, and a pet carrier and food. That way you are prepared for any eventuality!”

Julia Powney from Camelford will be presented with her prize by Mr Ken Yeo, the Portfolio Holder for Public Protection. He will be accompanied by Steve Winston, County Emergency Planning Officer. Martin Heal from Davidstowe also won a prize but cannot make the presentation.

Firefighters from Bodmin will give the winners a guided tour of the Fire Station following the presentation.
